This is to offer lots of  Hencouragement to Natalie Lawrence who is honestly and no-kidding going to walk up Mount Snowdon barefoot on 30 August, 2010! All money raised will go to The British Hen Welfare Trust. This song is a reworking of the traditional children’s ditty, “Oh dear, What Can the Matter be”, so do feel free to hum it to the same tune!

Oh, ouch! What can the matter be,
With our valiant Natalie?
She’s shunned all her shoes latterly,
Just to prepare for her climb.
She’s going up Snowdon unshod but for toe-nails,
To rescue some chickens from terrible woe tales,
May be overtaken when walking, by slow snails,
To bring home some bonny brown hens.

Oh, ouch! What can the matter be,
With our footsore Natalie?
Waging war on all things battery,
One barefoot-step at a time.
She’s going up Snowdon embellished by blisters,
(To salvage some chickens and some of their sisters),
With no foot protection ‘gainst sleet, snow or twisters,
To bring home some bonny brown hens.

Oh, ouch! What can the matter be,
With our callous-toed Natalie?
Is she going quite Mad-Hattery,
Trudging barefoot through the slime?
No! She’s going up Snowdon to earn lots of pennies,
Tear open the cages and liberate hennies,
To challenge the whys and the wherefores and whennies,
And bring home some bonny brown hens.
